What is lost in the unemotional statistic of 500,000 cancer deaths per year is how those people died. University of New York, has published in the prominent medical
journal, Lancet, a biting review of chemotherapy as sole therapy
against cancer: "Many medical oncologists recommend
chemotherapy for virtually any tumour, with a hopefulness
undiscouraged by almost invariable failure.

" And if Bailar started all this rancor, then Ulrich Abel, PhD
of the Heidelberg Tumor Center in Germany has brought the
issue to a fever pitch. Abel, a well-respected biostatistics expert,
published a controversial 92 page review of the world's
literature on survival of chemotherapy-treated cancer patients;
showing that chemotherapy alone can help only about 3% of
the patients with epithelial cancer (such as breast, lung, colon and

John Swinton (1829-1901) pre-eminent New York journalist & head of the editorial staff at the New York Times. Quoted one night around 1880. In 1953, the Fitzgerald Report, commissioned by a United States Senate committee, concluded that organized medicine had "conspired" to suppress the Hoxsey therapy and at least a dozen other promising cancer treatments. The proponents of these unconventional methods were mostly respected doctors and scientists who had developed nutritional or immunological approaches. Panels of surgeons and radiation therapists had dismissed the therapies as quackery, and these promising treatments were banned without a serious investigation. They all remain to this day on the American Cancer Society's blacklist of "Unproven Methods of Cancer Management."

What Causes Cancer?

This is not as simple a question as it sounds because

There are many different types of cancer
More than one 'cause' is often involved
There are about 200 different types of cancer affecting the different body tissues. What affects one body tissue may not affect another. For example, tobacco smoke that you breathe in may help to cause lung cancer. Over exposing your skin to the sun could give you a melanoma on your leg. But the sun won't give you lung cancer and smoking won't give you melanoma.

Apart from infectious diseases, most illnesses are 'multi-factorial'. And cancer is no exception. Multi-factorial means that there are many factors involved. In other words, there is no single cause for any one cancer. These are some of the factors involved in getting a cancer

Age
Your genetic make up
Your immune system
Your diet
Your day-to-day environment
Viruses
A 'carcinogen' is something that can help to cause cancer. Tobacco smoke is a powerful carcinogen. But not everyone who smokes gets lung cancer. So there must be other factors at work.

Age
Most types of cancer become more common as we get older. This is because the changes that cause a cell to become cancerous in the first place take a long time to develop. There have to be a number of changes to the genes within a cell before it turns into a cancer cell. The changes can happen by accident when the cell is dividing. Or they can happen because the cell has been damaged by carcinogens and the damage is then passed on to future 'daughter' cells when that cell divides. The longer we live, the more time there is for us to accumulate these genetic mistakes in our cells.

The Federal judge ordered the AMA's covert operation shut down - and leave the Chiropractors alone. The AMA files, library, etc., ended up in Stephen Barrett's 1,800 square foot basement in Allentown, PA.

They are doing this because these are doctors who genuinely care about their patients and they are open minded enough to find that many alternative treatments are far more effective and safer than conventional treatments.
